Shouldn't be a surprise. Cool water, warm air, temperature inversion, ducting... whatever. There is a big difference living on the coast--and you additionally have the Delaware Bay to the west--versus inland as you did in Bergen County. Watch for dramatic temperature shifts, fronts, et al. On a daily basis, generally speaking, the early morning hours as the sun first starts to heat the atmosphere should make for interesting listening up and down the coast.
I found the easiest way to tell if something interesting is going on is to scan all the NOAA weather channels. Early morning, evening, late at night... whenever. Coastal stuff from Massachusetts to the Carolinas should be easy pickings.
