On Saturday, I was passing through Bellmawr, NJ (Camden County) and close-called 155.715 on my scanner. The FCC does license this frequency to Bellmawr, NJ PD which obviously makes sense, however it sounds like a data channel (all noise) on the scanner. Is this frequency part of a TRUNKED system of some sort?? Just curious.

It's not licensed for trunked to any of the licensees in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. The radio code is PW, which is Public Safety Conventional, for all of them. YW is Public Safety Trunked.

In that case, then it's really odd that it's only spilling out noise just like a data channel would.

As long as I can remember I hear that noise on 155.715. It is not control channel data (like a EDACS or Motorola System) and it does not sound like Provoice digital. Could it be from Delaware?

It's a repetitive high pitched tone, right? Like "da-da-da-da-da-da". If that's it, I've received it here a few times. It's not a TRS control channel.

Cool, someone else beat me to the point of asking about this...

I have a fairly nice dual-band antenna on my work truck, and that signal can be heard for some serious distance around the Philly area.

It's a metallic-clicking machine-gun sound (that's the best I can describe it).

I use that channel for checking my VHF reception from all over the place (along with the 453.375 MDT channel out of philly)

It had been there for years, I suspect it is some sort of electronic sign type of data signal. Not an MDT or TRS CC.

I suspect multiple transmitters in SE PA, it is also strong in Wilmington DE.

If this helps narrow it down, my Uniden close-called it exactly at the Turnpike Overpass (Exit 3) on Black Horse Pike. So, whatever it is, it's being transmitted right in that area.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that 's exactly what it is audiodave! I'm going to log that in my notes just as that unless it's proven otherwise. Thanks for the help guys!

Belmawr is licensed for 20K0F2D (a digital mode) on 155.7150 MHz through WPVJ265. If I had money to bet, I'd bet that they were using a M/A-Com digital system.

I can here it in Medford very loud and clear. Very strong signal here. I always thought it was local interference. I never tried checking it out on the road. I drive through that area on I-295 daily. I'll check when I'm in the area again.

Have you ever heard of telemetry? Water, sewer data is passed to signal the various lift stations.

If there is a list of 2 watt mobiles that is what it is or they just don't have the sites licensed.

sign data for the NJTP?

Possibly. Whizzing along the TP, take notice when you pass one of these signs, as you drive through the underpass, look for a yagi or corner reflector (can't remember which one). Could be VHF-Hi.

If it is licensed to Bellmar it would have nothing to do with the turnpike. If it has been giving off data signals for 10 years it is not an MA Tyco Toy radio using AMBE.

Again it's telemetry for sewer, water data etc.

A long time local scan-ist has suggested it may be MDT's for several Camden CO departments.

I'll have to compare it to some MDT audio clips.

I looked up the license and its a repeater. It's not for the turnpike signs definitely.
A few choices, data, full time encryption from either batwings or after market like transcrypt?

155.715 is also annoying in the Lehigh Valley as well, Used by Northampton Regional Fire PL136.5 but the noise does not break the tone. I marked this as a annoying frequency as well along with 463.2500 used by LV Hospital Security PL118.8 but if not toned again you get basic static feed. The noise is picked up even with commercial rigs and every scanner I played with.
