For some time now I have been picking up P25 open and encrypted traffic on Frederick County Sheriff ch 5 and am not sure if it is simply another jurisdiction or that this is some new secure channel for the county, I get a consistent signal strength that is the same as Sheriff ch 2 (155.5500) and it seems to be a repeater.

Any scanner listeners in the area who have P25 capable gear, please let me know if you are picking this up and how strong it comes in for you.

This could be an old Metropolitan Police (DC) frequency that is now used for interoperability with federal agencies. Do you have a scanner that can decode NAC codes? If so, MPD's 158.8500 frequency should be using NAC 001.

I don't have NAC capability yet, probably after christmas, but if this is an interop channel would it be encrypted? Also I am picking this signal up strong around the city of winchester and some of the dc freqs that I have in my vehicle scanner don't come in nearly as strong.

Yes, the channel has been encrypted in the past. The old DC VHF frequencies have quite a bit of output, so it's possible you're hearing it in Winchester. Without a NAC (and since it's encrypted), it's hard to know what you're hearing...

I believe that you are correct, this wasn't listed as a repeater for Frederick Co. in the database and I am still hearing the normal traffic on their Sheriff channels.

I am located near Charles Town, WV and have programmed in this frequency and with a NAC search. If it picks anything up on it as P25 I'll capture it. I'll let you know what I find.

That will help alot, there is plenty of traffic on this freq daily I wonder if anyone in DC can see how strong they receive it?

Do you have a list of these old freqs? if so I would be interested to see how many of these are used for fed interop now.

I've been wondering what this was for the past year. Sometimes I won't hear it for weeks and sometimes I have to lock it out because of the non-stop chatter.

I too, am getting a NAC of 001 here in Charles Town, WV. I also get 5 bars of signal strength. That transmitter must be a blow torch if it's coming from DC.

well it is definitely not frederick county, I heard the swat team using 158.8500 DCS 311 simplex the other day, who is really using this freq is still a mystery, I have never heard of the so called metro pd freqs being used as federal interop before and haven't seen any list of these freqs.
