So I'm driving near 138th and Quebec today (I did notice a a multi-use tower on the hill north near 140th) and the Close Call goes off with 161.950 (Maritime Coast (Part 80) Channel 27) with a DPL of 306. It appears the user is a DIA shuttle service.

Now I know its not unusual to find these type of users operating unlicensed on these frequencies (heard it for years at O'Hare Airport), but running a repeater seems unusual. Has anyone else run across any of these types of users in the Maritime Band (161.800 - 162.025) here in the Metro area?

I wouldn't say unlicensed. Unless California fell into the ocean today there's no coast anywhere close to us. Land mobile use is normal in this region. In fact if you search around the the 161.xxx marine channels you will find an LTR system in use along the front range.

Before Loveland PD went 800 back in 2000 they were on 156.750.

I know the old AT&T site on the road between Hudson and 152nd has some stuff for some DIA private operations on it that has been added in the last 2 years. I think it is either high band or uhf. That is a fair distance from where you were I guess. As I remember it is LTR.

Loveland PD dispatch used to be on 156.750 prior to going digital. Now that was cool for me, seen as how I had a Marine radio and could hear them on it. Not so anymore.

When I think about it now I wonder how many boaters heard their transmissions and thought, "what the hell?"
