I went down to my local Radio Shack and picked up the "Amplified Communications Extension Speaker" and installed it in my '97 Mercury Villager. I used zip-ties to hold the speaker in place, which works very well. Eventually, I'll get an external antenna to put on there as well. Also, I am trying to figure out a way to mount the Pro-106. Any ideas? Thanks!

looks good. i was trying to look for a place to mount it but i can't really find a good spot
Thank you! All I did was open the little cubby hole just below the speaker, and ran a zip tie behind the cubby and up to where the speaker is. Attach the zip-tie to the bracket on the speaker, and you there you have it! I got the 14" black zip ties for like $4 at Ace Hardware.

Might not be a good idea for you, but-

Get rid of the ancient factory double DIN stereo "cassette player" and mount a nice single DIN CD stereo with an AUX input on the front (they are dirt cheap nowadays) that you can plug a scanner into.
Then get a single DIN scanner and mount it underneath/above the car stereo!

I guess it depends on your capabilities and budget, but the factory stereo is just taking up room.

Those AUX inputs are great for scanner audio piped throughout the car via the stereo speakers, or a cell phone hands free kit, or in my case, the iPod.

Regards, Commscanaus.
