• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I need a bit of help figuring out how to make the following work. I have a Baofeng UV5r and a UV-82. I would like to use these radios while in the outdoors with my Howard Leight ear protection ear muffs. Specifically, I want to be able to send and receive while having the radio in my pocket using the push to talk button on the ear piece wire.

The Howard Leight ear protection has a jack to receive audio input and play it through the ear protection.

I found a link to a product that I think would do the trick (see the end of my post), but it looks like it's missing the "mic" part for me to be able to speak into so I could use the radio using the push-to-talk button.

Is there another product out there that has everything I need to be able to do this? I read somewhere that kenwood 2 pin accessories could also be used by these 2 radios?

Alternatively, I'm willing to do some DIY work if it's not too involved....what I really want is the exact thing I already have with the 2 pin baofeng ear piece/mic here's a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...82 earpiece&qid=1453682988&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2 but I need the ear listening piece removed and an audio jack put onto it so I can plug it into the howard leight ear muffs...is it possible to cut the earpiece end off and solder a 3.5mm audio male fitting so I could plug it into the ear protection...thus giving me the listening through the howard leight muffs as well as the push-to-talk?

Here is a link to the product that provides most of what I need, except the "mic" portion.

BTECH 2 pin accessory

Thanks in advance for your help.

So, the big issue is that if you are in an environment that a high noise level, the microphone is going to pick that up and likely wipe out your transmit audio.

Not sure if the pin spacing is the same, but we have used similar headsets at work in our co-gen plant:

Huh, I got the ear piece and mic accessory included in both my UV-5VR2+ radios. I don't care for them at all because the earpiece "wraps around your ear" and I find it very uncomfortable to use.

IF i UNDERSTAND YOU CORRECTLY, THEN A SPEAKERMIKE, with a earpiece socket and a double male cable should work for you.

Yes, that is a simple matter to do if you have a soldering iron and aren't afraid to use it!
