Most conservatives don't rely on govt handouts and actually have to work for a living, so they don't have the time to watch MSNBC all day to compile a similar list.

Yeah, I've heard this line quite a bit - the hard working conservatives are paying for all the liberal slackers on welfare. The funny thing is though, the opposite is actually true. There's more red states on welfare than blue ones. Go figure.

Red States Are Welfare Queens - Business Insider

A pertinent quote from the above article sums it up best I think (emphasis mine):

Go ahead and bookmark this article. The next time some smarmy teabagger tries to tell you it's liberals who are ruining the country and spending us into oblivion, kindly point them to the evidence that shows it is GOP states, not Democrat states, who are Welfare Queens. It is GOP states who spend more than they collect in taxes. It is GOP states who are out of balance, nationally.

See if they still want to cut off funding when it means no more socialism for slave states.

Dude. Really? The Cato study?

You really should do yourself a favor and google this stuff before you post it. This so called study has been so thoroughly debunked that not even Mythbusters would touch it.

Here's some reading for you.
Cato Study Distorts the Truth on Welfare and Work | Economic Policy Institute
Debunking conservative myths about poverty
Right-Wing Media Have No Clue How Anti-Poverty Programs Work | Blog | Media Matters for America
Does Welfare Really Pay Better Than Work? - Business Insider

I could go on and on. A google search of "Cato welfare study debunked" returns about 1.4 million results. Feel free to pick any you like if the above 4 links aren't convincing enough for you.

How about the other one, you talk welfare, money taken back from the government after paying taxes, talk a look at what the money is used for, your trying to say the the red states are the welfare states.

Take a look at the states and see what that money is used for, then talk welfare, unemployment, food stamps, etc and tell me what states are the worse.

By the way, my name isn't Dude, it's Steve or HP.

Media Matters, and you talk Cato.

I've been wondering that for years.

Even with the slobbering windbags in the evening on msnBS, they play mostly clips and soundbytes of right wingers. If I gave a fish about what rush turdball has to say, I'd tune in to the AM hate radio band. But I don't.
And if you switch over to Fox news are they playing all day clips of Thom Hartman? No!
It's conservative bullfish disguised as liberal media so that the people who spell "fair" F-A-R-E, are convinced the enemy is the competing network when in reality, it's all the same agenda.

Those slobbering windbags may utter something insignificant about Big Energy, The Banksters and Pharma but just wait until the commercial break and it becomes clear who's written the script.
Do not remove that ankle bracelet, do not take a day off work and stay heavily, heavily, heavily medicated.

All you have to do is follow the money. Money is what talks.
All corporate media is carefully selected, screened and vetted propaganda paid for and approved by the corporate sponsors.

In the USA, that would be what you mentioned: big oil, big pharma, the banksters, et al. They are the ones who approve or deny what ultimately goes on the air on corporate media.

Great movie, the Insider with Al Pacino. If you have not seen it, you should. It's based on a true story about the tobacco industry who squeezed the nuts of CBS to get them to pull what would have been a breakthrough story about the tobacco drug pushers doping cigarettes.

But you never saw it because the corporate sponsors said "KILL IT"

This happens everyday. You Fox News or MSNBS sheep deserve what you get if you give these people anything other than a laugh.

Want to see real news? Watch the real BBC, Al Jazeera or even NHK.

Sure, they have their own version of spin, but it does not come from corporate sponsors. They also don't have the running commentary of pundits saying "is this good, or bad? Good, or bad?" on an endless loop.

Ah, that ol' piece.

Yes, more federal money per capita goes to the red states. Liberals love this statistic as it is very misleading. The key is the "per capita" which means per person. There are two reasons that make the claim in the article you posted bullsh*t. These two items are convieniently left out when liberals use this statistic but they make the statistic useless. No economist or financial guru would take it seriously. Only the willfully ignorant believe it proves anything.

Population and GDP are the key ingredients that make the statistic useless for the stated purpose(that red states are more dependent on federal money). It does not take population and State GDP into account. In other words, it is not what economists would call "adjusted".

1. Red states are predominently rural with low population and manufacturing. Blue states are predominately urban with high population, manufacturing and financial services. This means that blue states have a much higher GDP thus a much higher tax base and more people in a higher tax bracket. Because of this, Tax per capita will be higher in the blue states. This will be true whether there are any Federal expenditures to States or none.

2. The statistic includes all federal expenditures. It costs the same to build 100 miles of Interstate in a red state as it does a blue state. The per capita cost however is much higher in the red state simply because of the low population. The same is true for most federal expenditures.

So, while liberals love to use the statistic, it is garbage. They like to say, "Well, we pay for those nice highways you drive on". Yes, you do. I invite you to stop doing it because you need them more than we do. "Just in time" delivery of food and other resources to the cities require roads. Quit paying for them if you think they are for us rural folk. They are not. My city made manufactured products are not going to rot if it takes more than three days to get it to me. The blue states? I hope you like eating rotten food and waiting for material to manufacture. And please, please, PLEASE quit paying for the management of federal land within the red states and hand it over to the states already. Get us red states off of the "welfare" forced on us by you blue states so you can have a friggen place to go take a hike.

I don't know about the red state blue state crap. All I know is North Dakota is a red state and is sitting on a lot of fossil fuel and they watch their check book. There's even talk about eliminating the state tax!

Now California sits on oil too, but are they tapping it? No. The difference between a red state and a blue state: Red states have freaking common sense!

There's so much work in North Dakota that they are begging for people! Welfare? Please...

I only cite ND as an example because my dad works out there laying fiber optic cable.

I think it's safe to say Detroit is a welfare state and maybe even Chicago.

No the difference is blue states have people that don't want to see their natural resources and environment trashed in the name of the almighty dollar and the red states (some of them) don't seem to give a darn.
Not that anyone should really be singled out for that though because rightwing traitor obama supports sarah palin's drill baby drill energy policy and meanwhile, red state indiana has one of the most enormous wind energy projects I have ever seen.

You're obviously watching too much fox news, you haven't got any idea of why people are upset about fracking and drilling and the dangers of those dirty energy technologies.
Congratulations on learning to spell "fair" the right way, I guess you finally took me off ignore. I'll now let you get back to your sunday morning cartoons and tending to your mushrooms.
