To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Question for some of you that may have done an install of radio equipment in a vehicle like this. I want to re-do the install in my 2000 Blazer. I have removed the center console/cupholders to allow for a console for my radios. What I need to know is this: Is there a console out there that would allow for a Connex CB radio and a Uniden BCT15X scanner to be installed? If so, where do I find it?

I'm sure you've heard of Jotto Desk, Havis, Troy, etc that make consoles. Out of the 12 years I did installs Jotto was my favorite. I checked Jotto and didn't see any faceplates for the specific model CB you listed so I'm not 100% sure that it would fit in the console. You may want to measure the CB (width & height) and call Jotto, or whoever you prefer to see if they have a plate for another CB or radio that you could improvise with.

Or, you could always go for the homebrew console if you're feeling creative. What kind of budget are you working with if I may ask? That may help us get you going in a little better direction.

When we did blazers we had to make up a custom mount or shorten an existing mount because the clearance bewteen the seats is smaller than the average console made by console companies.

I was considering doing a custom console, as I have been searching Google and have failed to find a "direct fit" console that would work. I have already put holes in the bottom of my dash for the CB bracket anyhow, so a couple more holes in the truck ain't really gonna bother me that much. I was just trying to get a general idea of whether or not there was an actual console I could use in place of the stock factory one I removed. Since there isn't, I believe I will be digging out the tools and scrounge up some cheap sheet metal or wood and see if I can fab one up that'll work. I've got a rough idea of how I want to mount the radios, so I think I might give that a try. I'll leave this up for more input. I was looking to NMO mount the CB antenna and scanner antenna anyway, but I've got a pretty good idea what I want to do with those.

New idea... OH LORD!

Folks-
Over the last several weeks I have been brainstorming numerous ideas for my install. As far as the antennas I currently have, I believe I've got an NMO solution worked out for the scanner antenna. I currently have the 20-032 mag mount antenna on the Blazer, but I will be soon changing that to an NMO antenna mounted on the driver-side fender. However, I'm not sure if I should go with a long bracket coming up from the floor for the radios or not. I know it would likely look pretty tacky, but truth be told, I am sick and tired of my scanner residing on the floor of my Blazer where I can not see to adjust controls as needed. I'm kind of shying away from the idea of a console for this vehicle, so I was thinking maybe this would work to mount a BCT15X scanner and Connex 3300-HP CB radio: Motorola HLN9450A Wedge Mount, Installation Parts, HLN9450A - www.jsradiosales.com I would like some input as to whether anyone's used one of these for something this big before, or would I be better off getting a hump-mount? I'm also looking to install a ham rig once I get my ticket, although I don't know what radio I would get, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
