Hey all, my name is Ben, I am new to the RR forums, thought I would post my mobile setup.

It is in a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Reg Cab.

Radios: Yaesu FT1802M, Cobra 19 DX III (soon to be replaced with a 19 Ultra)

Switches control a Code 3 model 3000 siren and a Code 3 420 mini bar (soon to be replaced with Whelen Mini Edge, I hope).

Eventually, I would like to add more to my setup such as a dual band mobile and a mobile scanner.

Picture is a little blurry, had to snap it fast, due to really low battery (went dead after picture was taken....lol)

{can of worms} So, do you use that FT1802M on amateur radio frequencies or is it been modded for public safety use? {can of worms}

Be sure to post pictures of the antennas, the guys here love that :D

Nope has not been modded, it is all amateur.

Any pictures of the rest of your rig,Antennas, etc? Thanks...

Well, this is the best I have for pictures right now, I will get some closer pics on the antennas soon. 2 meter antenna is on the driver side, CB antenna on the passenger side.

Well decided to change my setup a little. I am removing the model 3000 siren and am replacing it with a Code 3/Galls Street Thunder siren. I decided that I would rather have the Street Thunder siren in my primary vehicle due to having more options on it.

I will post pics when I am finished.

There isnt a way to stak the CB on top of the siren control box? I see you are a volunteer firefighter. Thats a big truck with not enough of a warning light.

The problem with putting the CB on top is that I wouldnt be able to use the cup holders. This way with it mounted to the side, it is out of the way enough to allow the cup holder to fold out.

Ya, I found out about the light while en-route to a daytime call for a structure fire. I couldnt get any one to move. That is what prompted me to change from the Code 3 model 3000, only 2 tones and no horn, to the Street Thunder, 3 tones, manual function, and horn.

I am also planning to add more lights, probably a Whelen 90 watt corner strobe kit with 2 par 36 strobes on the brush guard.

Also, if they dont sell it first, there is a place near me that has a Whelen Mini Edge with 4 strobes and 2 LED, that I want to buy, to change out the halogen bar.

I wonder what the insurance company would think of people running lights and sirens in a POV?

One of the reasons people may not have seen the red lights is because your vehicle sits up so high. I drive a Subaru Legacy station wagon and my ability to see something on the roofs of high vehicles is limited by the long roof and how low I sit above the ground.

When I was in the Forest Service we had light bars on the roof and either bumper or grille mounted lights that flashed alternately. Some had headlight waggers and some were set up so the a headlight would flash at the same time as the opposite side's red would flash. It was a pretty good way to get the attention of the drivers of passenger vehicles that rode low to the ground. Headlight waggers alone were not as effective as those with both the waggers and the reds. Red lights seem to be more understood than waggers alone.

EDIT *Even the CHP uses bumper or grille mounted red and blue lights even on their passenger vehicle units.* EDIT

Very true, when I first got my bronco I had toyed with putting a federal signal mini-highlighter on the front bumper but what would have been cool on an engine or department apparatus would have been overkill and borderline hamsexy on a POV

All I used was a code 3 hi-speed rotator with mirrors on the dash and that was a lot of lighting power. There were just as many times where I did not even bother to turn it on as it was better to ride with traffic than to slow down because people would stop in the road or pull off a little bit (making me have to cross into another lane to just get around them) so it was too much risk/trouble for any barely measurable gains.

That is similar to what I am planning, except, mine will be strobes at all 4 corners and a pair of Red par 36 strobes on the brush guard.
