• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a 2004 Chevy Astro that I have proud for 6 years of having a clean receiver bed. As of 1/21/2011 its now very noisy on my CDM1550 VHF, PSR-500 and Icom IC-2350.. Whats NOT Affected is a Cobra 29 CB...... The noise sound like igniotion noise and its worst around the center console on the handheld scanner

Any suggestions on what to check first from those who may have experienced this first hand...

Thanks in advance!

what do you mean worse with teh handheld scanner, is it plugged in to vehicle power? you can get engien noise from 2 sources, whine on the DC or RF generated by soemthing in the vehicle. if it is alternator whine, check you grounds, all of them including factory vehicle grounds. run a new ground strap from the battery to the chassis. RS used to carry a 30A noise filter, those work great to eliminate alternator whine.

if it is RF, you will have to search it out i can really recommend a source for it as it is rare on anything above low band.

If it is the popping sound of the ignition you may have a bad spark plug or spark plug wire that the insulation has broken down.

Thanks for your input. I took my Kenwood TK-2170 and put it on a rather strong NOAA Weather station and stuck the HT antenna under the hood under where the doghouse of the van was so that idea of the spark plug system is where I will start. The Van is a "government" vehicle and I will get the "government" to fix it. (Hopefully) It has 180,000 miles on it (budgets cuts have stalled replacement) and never had the plugs and wires done..

Thanks for you ideas... I was just wandering if someone in post land had had the exact same experience and solution.

It is not necessarily coming off the power as It is being picked up on the isolated handheld scanner. I made a neat bracket for the dash for my scanner or any HT I want to put up there which is just above the doghouse and it ignition pops real bad but if I put the scanner in the seat the noise is minimized.

Thanks Again and have a blessed day!

yep, sounds like rf generated since the scanner is truly isolated.

The Plug wires were changed today by a not so happy mechanic. It did not help! But He saw the intensity of the situation so he agreed to change the plugs next week.

FIRST, we so took the vehicle to an auto electric shop who put the truck on the analyser and found no problems with the alternator or battery........

The plug location on a chevy astro like on many cars is ridiculous and nearly impossible to change........

Problem solved

The Distributer Cap and the Distributer Button had a micro wear gap that was arcing over. This was creating a low power spark gap transmitter! We replaced both items and the noise went away.. PROBLEM SOLVED AND THANKS!
