If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening all,

I'm looking to install my 996XT in my civilian model 2012 Charger. I am having some troubles on a few things.

1) Where should I place the scanner itself?
2) Should I utilize a remote head package because there isn't a lot of room in the front of the vehicle?
3) Where is the best place to place the antenna? (I'm thinking middle of the trunk, personally)

Also, if anyone can suggest how to run the electrical wires, that would be wonderful too. I've never installed my equipment in vehicles with the batteries in the trunk before.

Thanks,

Trevin

Did you ever end up installing the remote head? I have the same vehicle and was eyeing the BC996XT with the BC-RH96. The only place I was thinking was above the mirror, but I wasn't sure if there's enough room there.

I have the 4" radio, and was wondering if anything could be done with the space below it. I have the sport shift, and with the power plug on the bottom, that rules out that bottom opening.

I'm still in the "wishful thinking" phase, and I'm not commited to putting anything in yet.

Well you got to way in the safety factor were you mount stuff these days because these new and pretty vehicles they don't give Much Options and having a possible accident with a Radio in a open and unprotected area can lead to disaster if Hits you or your occupants that might be riding with you..

Buying a Custom mount if one can be put in is one safe way to Go, there is a mount made by Ram Mount that works with the Home Patrol it mounts under the rear view Mirror).

In my situation I'm using my BCD396xt and have it setting in a Vent holder pouch when i motivate I sometime hook it up to our trucks Audio impute to pump up the Audio from the Scanner As for my BCD996 it has to stay at home :( for now anyway.

As for Antenna my 396 works great with the short antenna I bought a Few months back I'v never needed to hook it up to an external antenna which in a way kind of surprised me but a Good radio as the 396 is I think it's better off with it's short portable antenna..

I have a 2010 Charger, replaced the orginal dash bizzle with one out of a 2009 Police Model(even came with the mike hook).
Used a after market radio backet kit from Canadian Tire.

Unfortunately in the 2011 and up models, they completely revamped that area. There's a Metra replacement for the bottom radio/HVAC/power outlet (Metra Online). But with that I have to buy another radio to replace the stock one. Not to mention the $500 just for the Metra part. I have the sport shift, so I can't get a console from Havis/Jotto/Troy etc either. I'm pretty resigned to mounting a remote head just above the overhead console.
