Fantastic setup! A few questions...

Is that a mic magnet clip at the top left? Where did you get it? What kind of console is that? Simple re-route of the "cig" plugs or all-new cig plugs?

Regards,

-Frank C.

i did 2 mikes for less than half.

There's a number of options

The nice thing about the Magnet Mics is that they will work with the hook switch function of the radio. Useful for PL defeat or on hook scan functions.
But, they are overpriced. Nice thing is, they'll last forever.

My only gripe is that the magnet is too strong and can make it hard to grab the microphone.

Yeah, they slide off better.

On the flip side...
I've used them on UTV's, and they'll hold the mic in place even on the roughest trails.
When we first installed them, our officers had fun playing with them. Seeing how far away they could toss the mic from and get it to stick. They are now standard equipment on all the installs.

Years ago they were giving out free samples at IWCE. I scored two of them that way. I switched all my vehicles over to them a few years ago.

Yeah I would like to see the antenna set up for all those radios. Did you add an extra battery? That's a lot of equipment on at the same time.

They could also come up with a better grounding solution besides the spring. Apparently they think the majority of the vehicles still have metal dashes.

I saw an install where someone just ran a ground wire from the mounting screw to the body of the vehicle. I think it even says that in the manual.

Yeah, you have to put a terminal between the magnet and the mounting surface on the screw. It really does not look clean. A easily solution would be to extend a wire for were the spring hole is. That way you can drill a hole for the wire, feed it through, and mount the mag clip. That way you don't see anything and it would mount flat, not with a ring terminal jammed underneath. I modify the ones I install to do exactly this.

Pretty cool, but pray that you're never in a serious accident. I'm quite certain they would claim distracted driving and most juries would believe it.

Couldn’t you use a bolt and nut and do it from the backside?

It's a nice setup but it looks awfully "busy." There are more distractions than I would want to deal with.

No, because the mounting screws are insulated for the magnet

I haven't found that to be the case. I've had success grounding through the mounting screw and using a star washer between the back side of the mount and the dash.

But, I agree, they could do a better job on these. The center hole where the spring would go should be tapped so you could run a screw into it to make better contact.
