I'll be attending the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek in a few weeks and was wondering if there are any special frequencies that will be used for this event?

I have a digital scanner so the DTRS system isn't a problem!

Thanks in advance!

Colorado public-safety agencies are planning to deploy a band class 14 700 MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) demonstration network during the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships (FIS AWSC) Feb. 2 – 15 in Vail and Beaver Creek, two mountain ski resorts in the state.

Past experience w/ Vail World Championships

In 1989 when they had them in Vail, there was plenty to listen to if you know any foreign languages.

Scan the bands for lots of simplex activity. Of course with cell phones much more pervasive 25 years later there may not be as much of that type of team traffic. Back in 89 there was enough activity that the FCC field office had someone coordinating the frequency usage between all the teams, media, etc.

The 89 event even moved the FBI's radio upgrade for the Denver Field Office up the priority list so that it would be in place in time for the races. Now a days all of that will be entirely encrypted, but I'm sure there will probably be a heavy DHS (but mostly unseen) presence.

Probably lots of unusual to be found if you spend some time looking.

Expect lots of activity on DTRS, and the Vail Resorts LTR system. I wouldn't worry about too much on the LTE system, I saw in one of the articles that it will be fairly limited, they were talking of only having about 30 user units available.

Searching the bands will be your friend.
