I am looking on EBay for my first ever scanner purchase. I looking to scan the local Fire 800mhz Trunked system.

If all 3 scanners were in equal shape, which is the best quality scanner? The PRO 2067, 2051, or the 2055?

This is just for starters to test the water, I am sure I will add another 2-4 scanners once I get everything figured out. Money is not really an issue once I know what the heck I am doing. The first one is just a "toy" for me, but I do want something that I can continue to use over time and keep in my "Scannerbank".

Thanks! :D

I have a 2055 and have been very pleased with it , they are suppossed to go on sale Friday 11-27-06 for $169.00. The handheld version is the Pro 97 which will be on sale aswell and is also a good choice, Depending on what your gonna pay on ebay plus shipping you might look into the sale at your local RS. Having the warranty and a new out of the box unit might be worth a couple extra dollars.

I have the 2067 and 2055.......both have alpha tags and CTCSS capabilities 2051 doesn't....
2055 has 1000 channels, 2067 has 500 channels. 2067 uses the WIN 92 program (FREE) and the 2055 uses the WIN 97 program ($25 after 30 day FREE trial....and WELL worth the money IMHO) to program the scanner(s) thru your computer rather than the keypad. The 2055 is a MUCH better scanner reception wise and the keypad is backlit soooooo...I'd go for the 2055 in a heartbeat. Given the choices you have listed...

Just be aware that the 2055 *may* have display problems and some of them on ebay are "tech specials".

I read where some have had good luck in re-soldering the header to flex cable, but requires a solder technique.

Intesting replys so far. Thanks for all the info. This is just a toy for starters, but I would like to be able to keep it and use it as my scanning grows :)

Thanks guys/gals! :)

I have found one more I would like to add to the list. Tell me all about the PRO 2067 - 2051 - 2055 - 2066
Thanks!

I have a 2055 in the mail right now... Can't wait to get it..

I've heard the display problem is nothing more than a loose connector on the inside? Am I right? Or not? LOL

There has been a thread going for a long time on this which appears to be the main problem, my 2055 has been going strong for a year with no problems ( 06A05 date code ).

I say go for the 2055 also. Sometimes you can find a 2051 on E-Bay for $99. To save money, go with that, but you will not get any alpha tags or CTCSS/DCS. I didn't like the 2067, it had a problem with the squelch that I never got over. 2066 is old technology, and only can trunk 800 MHz Motorola at a time, and no conventional simultaneously.

No 2067 fans here?

Isn't it the only one on my list to have Alpha Tags? I thought that was important for many of you?

The PRO-2055 does alpha tags.

Just want to get a cheap one to play with, then will upgrade a few months down the road. No worries.

And rebanding here will happen in 1-3 years I suspect. Plenty of time.

Well then get the 2067 (win92 is free).

For motorolla sytems the 2055 should be same as the pro-97 and probably wont trunktrack 800 mhz after rebanding unless there is a process to upgrade the firmware or hardware (not likely)

I know you're in Sacramento now, so I say get the -2055. We're slowly going digital, but the conversion is so slow that you don't need digital yet. The -2055 is your best choice. I can even help program it if you want.

If you DO buy a -2067 and decide you don't want it later, I might be willing to buy it off your hands.

I have the 2055 and it is a great radio. It has the best audio I have heard in a scanner. It gets the best of the best in that area. I would go to RS and buy it on sale as Fleabay could be a real problem. I have the newer date code and so far no problems with the display going out. My biggest problem is setting the volume low enough not to annoy my wife. I would like a second for my truck but I have too many radios already and too many antennas. I would have to find a spot for the radio and another antenna. I may just do this because this radio is perfect for mobile also.
