Is there any way to change the step on the 2096
i cant find it in the manual
if i enter 155.090 and hit enter i get 155.09250
If it has a set default for this setting
this is a big flaw
and i say goodbye rad shack hello uniden lol

Well i don't know if it can be done manually but i know it can be done with win 96 and that 2096 for the money blows all the rest out of the water for the price they go for..just my nickel's worth

Now if i am not mistaken with the win 96 you just enter the frequency and load it to the scanner you don't have to change anything on the software,i know the w.va dnr is on 159.2125 apco 25 i used to listen to them..i could be wrong but i am almost positive that there is a way to do this...Well i just tried it and i am wrong it won't work and that's unreal concidering there are so may systems using odd step's these day's in the vhf range..the new steps are.Hey try this 7.5 step's works 159.2175...159.2625

6.5
7.5
12.5
very odd that this feature is not avalible in a 500 dollar scanner!!!Fix This GRE in the next digital scanner and to bad a firmware flash can't fix the current ones or can it?

I just tried to program a federal frequency into my PRO-96, manually and with Win96, and I cannot get the radio to comply with the channel spacing in that band. The frequency is supposed to be 167.5125 and both the scanner and the software insist on rounding it to 167.515 MHz.

This is the first "major" issue that I've had with this scanner. Rounding this close is OK for analog, but it's too far off frequency for digital.

-edit-
I just noticed that the OP was complaining about being unable to enter 155.090 MHz. That is not a valid channel. The scanner's response of 155.0925 is correct.

From the Win96 *Help* file: Each “range” of frequencies in the PRO-96 has a valid step size (see the Limit Search page for information on ranges/steps). If you enter a frequency that is not on a valid step, or is otherwise “out of range”, Win96 will automatically adjust the value to the nearest valid frequency.

The trouble is, Win96 does not recognize all of the "valid" frequency steps that actually exist in the real world. In the upper federal vhf band, the step size is 12.5 kHz, not 5, 7.5, or 15.

The "trouble" isn't with Win96. As TES hinted above, Win96 can only send to the radio frequencies that the radio considers valid.

Yes, DonS is right. I said that backwards. Win96 can make the scanner do some things that can't be done from the keyboard, but "valid" frequency stepping is hardwired in the radio's chips.

I listen to what's normally 166.7375 on my 2096 in P25 and I have no problem decoding the audio. It's a simple single-site NB repeater.

So there is no way to change step sizes for a Apco-25 control channel that is on 167.8125 (the radio changes it to 167.815, and I cant get the CC to come in clear)?

I guess so, as I am continually unable to do this. How frustrating.

I guess I need to get the PSR-600

There are 2 wv dnr tac freqs that the 2096 wont tune too because of the step problem
i still hear them at a freq a little above but they sound a little off freq (of course).
I like the 2096 and this is my only problem with it
thank goodness i have unidens
