Just found 10 2300 mAH batteries at Fry's for $18 + tax. Tax and all it's less thank $2 per battery. Good so far...

In the past I bought some 2300mah Panasonic NiMH batts from Costco with a charger. Then I found some 2500mah NiMH Evereadys.

This past w/e I found some (4 x AA) 1.25v NiMH with a universal charger at WalMart for about $17. The charger (which can also charge AAAs) comes with an adapter for an auto (cigarette lighter), and a wall wart which accepts 100v-240v and a European adapter. So you can charge the batts anywhere. The batteries have no brand and are made in China. They had just the batts (AA) 4 for $6.99.

Note that my scanners work great on any of these batts, but my digital camera does not like the typical 1.2v NiMH. The camera works good with these 1.25v NiMH.

Exactly my scenario. The Panasonics take f o r e v e r to charge and those go in the digital camera; the Evereadys go in my scanner and FT-60 HT.

That's interesting. I've found the Panasonics charge more quickly for me, in the scanner or out. The charger they came with is a quick charger and they state they use some smart charging algorithm.
