We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

It's been some time since I have turned on the scanner and used it. The last time it was used, I don't believe that the battery ran completely out. I turned it on recently, only to discover it was completely dead. I put it on the charger for a few hours and when I took it off the charger and turned it on, it stayed on for only about a second before the low battery indicator beeped and the scanner turned off. I think I'm using the right charger, so I am wondering why the battery didn't charge.

Another thing I noticed is that when I had the scanner on the charger and turned it on, depending on what angle it was being held at, the front display would seem to turn off and then reset. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the scanner, given the fact that the battery won't charge and when the scanner is plugged in and the scanner is then rotated up and down, the front display resets everytime the scanner is moved.

Sounds like deep discharge on the battery. Take the battery out and check for corrosion, etc.

Try charging git again for maybe 24 hours.

I don't know anything about that scanner specifically. Are those batteries just generic rechargables, or is it a specialty design?

Replacement battery

If your battery ends up being damaged, or it can't hold a charge any more, you might consider a replacement. Check this place out--the NiMH technology doesn't require constant charge-discharge cycles like the original NiCad battery pack that came with your scanner.

Not sure about the display problem--could be the battery--could be a bad connection at the battery that gets loose when you move the scanner. Sometimes it's best to take these problems one at a time... fixing the battery may cure your display problem. Best of luck.

I agree with lebrunmn, and batteryspecialists is where I just got two replacement batteries for my 250. They also have a Store on e-bay that has the battery pack using DuraCell 2650 mAH batteries. I got mine for 15 bucks each. Check out item # 250237780260 on e-bay.
