I have my TRX-1 set up just the way I want it with the help of Zipscanners. However, the transmissions are jumbled and not coming in clear. I installed an antenna on my roof to help with reception but it is still coming in jumbled. Are there other settings that could help with the reception. How can the squelch help? Any advice would be appreciated.

@ cortman- IF you're trying to get a 700/800Mhz P25 Digital Simulcast SITE/SYSTEM you'll need a directional Yagi antenna, earlier Whistler scanners suffer from Simulcast distortion. We're still waiting for the TRX-100/200 to surface, those (MIGHT) do better on such systems.

ZIpscanner probably did the ****ty zipcode programming and sent it out the door. It is the easiest and worst way to program PLUS it doesn't dial anything in for YOUR listening location.

With that said what is your zipcode, so we can look up whats in the data base for you and what exact system are you having problems with?

Assuming marcs since butler is on that system You've got 14 towers and thats the problem!

Whistlers do lousy in simulcast - multi tower areas. they get very overloaded easily by so many signals.
Try turning on the attenuater - probably wont help, You can try the paperclip antenna.

As shown in the link I have found Uniden scanners do better in simulcast systems.

https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/trx-1-and-simulcast-distortion.381910/

This is a four tower system hes trying to get, be sure to watch it all. I live near Saginaw he mentions, and my uniden 396xt does quite well while in that county. Equivalent current is the 325p2.

Since you were willing to spend a lot and the programming I would suggest the best and is designed with simulcast in mind and can be easily programmed by zipcode is the uniden sds100 portable. 436hp portable is another good alternative and is in between in price of the 325p2 and sds100

Hopefully you are able to return your trx 1.
