If that's on a TAFL search, I respectfully suggest that's going to be a data signal of no use to scanner listeners. I found the same kind of frequency allocated to some new devices popping up at weigh scale stations on Alberta highways a couple years back. It turns out that these are systems that receive some kind of transponder info - presumably from various trucks that buy into some kind of program to work with the scale crews/highway inspection guys. From what I recall of the 407, there are similar transponders used by 'regular' users of the highway, aren't there?

They used to be on the UHF "Passport Pals" system that MRC, Fleetcom and a couple other companies ran. However, coverage was horrible for them. Who knows where they ended up - my guess would be either Telus iDEN or Harmony iDEN.

excalibur is usually the best informed source .
So, you most likely won't find the Roadside Assistance guys from 407 ETR using any monitorable radios.

How about you tell us the freq.'s ABRAMS Towing uses ?

Actually the Passport mobile coverage is still quite good right to the 404 and I am sure was rock solid when Fleetcom was on board with the Ballantrae site.

That's the transponder frequency. Same used for most of the others, i.e. I-Pass on Illinois Tollways. Since the Illinois I-Pass is part of EZ-Pass, I assume those are all on 915 MHz as well.

When you figure out how to jam it the account isn't charged, please let us know.

the only thing jamming the transponder signal will do is tell the billing system you don't have a transponder and bill you the video toll charge as well. the gate takes a picture of your plate whether you have a transponder or not. so it actually works against you.

407 ETR employees have to perform maintenance on the equipment boxes located on the on/off ramps. Those 270 degree ramps are dug in to the dirt with the excess piled up on either side of the ramp. PassPort coverage has always been horrible in those "canyons", even with Ballantrae, Toronto, Brampton and Oshawa on line. One of the worst locations I encountered was the eastbound onramp at Neyagawa - it's a big hole.

I found problems even on the main roadway; with some valleys, you'd lose your current site and the roaming took too long to find another site. The ETR folks were unimpressed and ended up sticking with Telus.

lol...I don't plan on jamming it ! I've never used the 407 since it opened (I ain't payin' t'drive on it), actually when it did open, it was free for two weeks and I did use it daily going to/from work because the on/off ramp was right behind us. It took me 5 min less driving time but 10 km longer (one way) in distance. I didn't want the quicker wear and tear on my tires on concrete and after the two week period I never drove on it again. I graduated high school in 1986 and there was a popular slogan back then "407 in '87".

Makes sense, figured just the road maintenance crews would have been using the systems with mobile radios.

What was the sync pulse times set to on the Fleetcom sites and the scan hang times in the Passport personalities?

That makes about as much sense as using your mobile phone to have someone at home unlock your car doors with the spare key fob. :D

I did watch Tow Biz once ... I thought they were using MiKE phones.

Alls it takes is a scanner capable of tracking an LTR systems routed through your computers sound card and run an program called Invert to listen to your company.
