• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, I have my unification g5 from my fire dept, last night I shut it off while I was in class, I come out turned it back on and hear some radio traffic on my way home, well I got got home, and had a red light flashing, it says "out of range" it's said this now for 8 hours, it always works at my house, but for some reason now it doesn't want to, does anyone know what could be my problem before I take it to a radio communications store, thanks!

Which frequency band is your agency using? If 800MHz, try a different antenna. If VHF or UHF, the antenna is internal, and your only option is having the unit serviced.

Also, check your programming. Make sure you have all 4 possible control channels programmed in for the site you are monitoring. The control channel may have changed. Are you using an aftermarket antenna or the stubby purple banded one? Some after market antennas disturb the SMA connector center pin.

Make sure you only have one site and associated primary and alternate control channels programmed in a single knob position. The G series will lock on to and hold the strongest site to the exclusion of any others programmed in the same knob.

Have you changed programming options recently? Make sure the “site Trunking” is unchecked.

Just a couple of thoughts. Possible antenna damage. Did you drop it? I'm assuming not. Do you program it yourself? If so, try programming it again with the PPS and see what happens. Maybe a control channel changed- are others in your department having same issue? There is a wildcard setting for the control channels you can enter, if it's not already. That way it will look for another control channel matching the systems ID, if the CC did change. All of these are just guesses, but could be what you are experiencing.

Todd you getting anything on Charlottesville yet ??

It’s been a while since I’ve tried. I’m on the other side of the mountain too, so I don’t know if it would be able to receive a signal. I’ll pm you if I do.
