• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good evening! I'm attempting to program a direct, analog UHF frequencies in my 6550. I'm using CPS 10.00.01 & Firmware R01.08.20. Example 451.187 RX and 451.187 RX. I have selected CSQ as for the type of PL. The section to change the PL is completely darkened out. I can receive radio traffic on the channel but when I transmit no one can hear me. Any suggestions please? Thank you!

Well, CSQ means no PL, so you have to select TPL for Squelch Type if you want to actually set a PL tone. Also 451.187 is not a valid frequency (451.1875 is), so perhaps you meant 451.1875 or something else entirely.

If no one can hear you it probably means they have a PL programmed. And since you don't the radio doesn't un-mute to your transmission.
Also, your CPS version is ANCIENT.

Thank you GTR8000 and K2NEC for the quick responses! GTR8000 I don't believe I need a PL tone as I have pretty much confirmed it's not necessary. I "read" a work radio using a very cheap, Chinese frequency counter. I have to assume now that it is NOT that accurate. I can hear co-workers clearly. Wouldn't the channel sound "off frequency" if I had the wrong RX?

My cheap frequency counter "read" RX 451.187, again that is probably inaccurate. Any suggestions?

Do you have permission to be adding a radio onto this system? Check with your named licensee and get the right frequency from him.

If they can’t hear you it might be because you are using a repeater? In that case your TX freq would have to be offset. Maybe +/- 5 MHz?

Where are the red and blue flashing lights? Or does the radio police only use amber LOL

This thread smacks of a guy trying to put a radio on a system he's not authorized for, or doesn't have all the information on. Either way, potential exists to cause interference to that or another system if he keeps guessing at frequencies and modes of operation. There's a right way to put a radio on a system, and a wrong way. If pointing him in the right direction makes me the radio police, I'll take that as a badge of honor.

You are missing the PL tone. The reason you can hear them is because in CSQ mode, you are receiving ALL PL tones. Since you are not transmitting the correct PL tone, the user's radios will not unmute on your traffic. Also, the frequency you gave is not correct for the US. As someone who works for a LARGE radio manufacturer, I strongly recommend you read the radio and gather the correct data. You are setting yourself up for some serious issues by "guessing" the correct info. Also, get any/all permissions in writing or on video with a cellphone in case this thing blows up. What type of work are the radios being used for? TT
