• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

That's not how that works, feature strings have to be generated by Harris TAC and are paid services. Contact a Harris dealer if you want features enabled/disabled

There are people on this board that can help. If they see this post, they will reach out and offer to remove the wideband restriction. They reached out to me and I was able to remove it from my two XG100M mobiles. I think it was around $20. L3Harris would not entertain selling me the new feature string and several dealers were unsuccessful at getting me the new string, but that member her was able to do it. I do not remember their name, so please don't ask, but it is very doable.

I should have clarified, "through any Harris dealer"..... 161 you are absolutely correct, its doable but you will need to make a new friend in doing so.. also please not PM me and ask either, I don't know who you need to contact either.

Its easy and cheap to get WB in an XG-100P through a dealer, I know many people that have done it recently.

OP - you can forget about getting wideband... its not going to happen. Harris wont sell you a new feature string to include wide band. Especially if your a ham. It doesn't matter what credentials you have, what reasoning you have, what documents you can provide.

Funny. I needed a feature update, contacted my local shop, and they sold me the feature update. All I had to do was send the serial number and the existing feature string.

I suppose it depends on the shop you're working with, but I've never had an issue doing a feature update.

Features can be added very easily through just about any dealer, but L3Harris will refuse to remove the wideband disabled feature. You have to go through that member here. Apparently they know a dealer that has special privileges and can either generate a new FES or they know the magic words that L3Harris requires to remove that wideband restriction.

L3H has become increasingly strict in this area. For the XL200P, even the official price list says that customers under the regulation of the FCC may not purchase the option. Obviously there is no current price list for the 100P options since it’s EOL. It’s definitely possible to have it widebanded though…

I'd be interested in the solution, I have a couple that could use wideband functionality enabled.

Interesting thread all the way around.

Can the XG100M be "unbricked" without TAC after a botched firmware upgrade? I've got one sitting on a shelf that was given to me non-op because a local shop tried to upgrade the firmware and "messed it up"...so I'm assuming they went out of order or something.

There are a couple of pretty current threads on this… unfortunately if it’s botched firmware, it’s a bit trickier than a botched personality write. You can try a jump from radio maintenance, forcing program mode, formatting the flash drive, or you might have to use putty. I’m obviously not a mod, but for the highest visibility and better ongoing support, you might start a new thread with as many details as you can like the type of control head, remote or front mount, etc.

If you know the radio is well featured with all bands, p25, trunking, phase2, etc., and you got the radio for free, even the TAC flat rate $800 fee is a pretty good deal for a 100M…

Current flat rate for XG100M is $950 (unless its gone up again since April). Chances are if its just a botched FW job, this might be covered, however, if during the visit to TAC, they determine something else is not to spec and need repair/replacement, that can fall under the "multiple defect" part. My last 100M came back with a $1050 bill attached to it because of this.

Interestin conversation, I sent my radio to a teams guy to be update and he just asked s few questions from Harris engineers and parked it. I’d be very happy to have Wb open and or any other feature available for this unit. .

Does your xg-100 not have bluetooth feature? I refuse to pay 200 dollars for a cable to program one radio maybe once every 3 months when bluetooth works just as good. The only downfall is that you can't program any encryption keys to the radio
