I recently upgraded to an SDS100. I have all of the Talk Groups for PFA loaded in, including 4063 dispatch, plus 4064, 4065, 4066, 4067 and 4069.

I’ll hear the computer voice with a dispatch, completed by “respond on Med Channel 5” or “respond on Fire Ground 2” or “respond on Fire Ground 3.” After that, I pick up nothing related on the scanner. For the medical dispatches, perhaps Med Channel 5 is encrypted, but I’m wondering why I’m not hearing anything on any of the related TGs for the other calls.

By the way, I ran the scanner in discovery mode for a couple of days, with no hits on any of the other PFA TGs.

What am I missing?

Do you have all the service types selected? (Fire Dispatch, Fire Tac, Fire Talk, EMS Dispatch, EMS Tac, EMS Talk). I hear the initial automated dispatch on PFA 1, then sometimes a human will come on with more info. PFA 2 has a soft encryption, so that may be what you are experiencing. I think the big incidents are on PFA 3 and 4. If you have the hospital service types selected you will hear the UCH amubulances speaking with PVH on TG 9468 when they are about 5 minutes out. I am listening to PFA med channel 5 right now (9-14-22 20:00), and hear plenty of activity. I wonder if patient specific info is just entered into CAD instead of over the air for HIPAA.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'm missing PFA med channel 5. What is it? I thought that I had everything in!

The encryption on PFA 2 is interesting. I'm just getting back into scanning after being away several years.

For PFA 3 and 4, I assume that you're referring to TGs 4065 and 4066. Correct?

Also, I've been using DTRS sites Buckhorn, Horsetooth and Fort Collins.

Specifically, make sure that Fire-Tac and EMS-Tac service types are enabled. These are disabled by default.

Thanks. I'm not sure what I had wrong, but I reset everything and started over. I verified all of the service types, and I'm picking up the Fire-Tac and EMS-Tac now. It's a learning experience!

Also, if you’re in Fort Collins, do a site hold on Horsetooth instead of scanning all the local sites. It will pick up transmissions a lot faster.
