Anyone here around the Lynchburg area? If so what type of scanner are you using? I am using a Unication G5 but was thinking about getting a Uniden sds 100 or 200. Just hoping someone had some input on what type I should trade for. thanks

Do not get any scanner other than the SDS series or an SDR dongle.
Those are the only devices capable of decoding simulcast systems, such as CVRCS.

Could be matter of opinion. My G5 blows the SDS 100 away on simulcast here where I am in NY. While the G5 is not a “scanner” it is a far better receiver IMHO.
As always YMMV.

I totally agree. Definitely cuts off the beginning of many transmissions and misses the occasional channel grant. But, if you're looking for the top tier scanner, SDS is it. Commercial radios will always out do scanners.

I am using a unication G5 now. I just don’t know how to program it. I have had bearcats in the past and they seem easier. But thanks for the replies.

The G5 is not a scanner - it's basically designed to monitor one channel / talk group, BUT it has the ability to scan a single system per knob position. Its programming software is a bit daunting at first, but once you learn how to use it, it's not that difficult. If you are the type of person who constantly interacts with your receiver or wants to monitor more than one system at a time, then get a SDS 100 (or 200). I use a SDS 100 with GPS in my vehicle because I travel between jurisdictions frequently and need to monitor 2 SmartZone systems, but once they go away, I'll be using my G5 most of the time.

Alrighty, well do you prefer handheld or base? Operationally they're the same radio just different form factors with the SDS200 adding in ethernet connectivity for streaming and control

I am going with the handheld. I like the portability of handheld units. Although the Ethernet connectivity sounds useful.
Once I sell the G5 I will decide. Thanks for the reply
