I have searched the forums and am well aware of the tunnels in the hampton roads area using 453.850 for their operations. I am interested in PL tones for them so that it will be much easier to sort out all the intertangled voices that one hears during rush hour daily. I also have pinned down the PL tones for all that I know of. Does anyone have any more PL tones or corrections to this list? Is there more than just tunnel activity for this frequency IN THIS AREA? (Peninsula, Southside, Etc.)

453.850 100.0 Hz = Monitor Merrimac MBT (Confirmed)
453.850 127.3 Hz = Hampton Roads BT (Confirmed)
453.850 156.7 Hz = Midtown Tunnel (Confirmed)
453.850 192.8 Hz = Downtown Tunnel (Confirmed)

The ones marked confirmed, I have heard the control room
Id itself. eg (Merrimac Control, Hampton Control, Downtown, Midtown)

From where I monitor from (Downtown Newport News) I pick up
MMMBT the strongest, HRBT almost as strong, and then the downtown & midtown about the same (weak, scratchy)

I have been told that the James river bridge is also on here, but I have not heard that myself during any of my monitoring of the 453.850 frequency. I do know that they maintain a guard on several marine frequencies and have heard them communicating with ships that they were about to lift the bridge for. Can anyone confirm or deny if they actually use 453.850 during the course of their operations?

Also, rumors that the Jamestown Ferry uses 453.850 to communicate with someone/something. I already know of them using marine channel 11 for water operations. Can anyone confirm or deny if they actually use 453.850 during the course of their operations? Thanks.

Also, if either the bridge or ferry use 453.85, what PL tones do they use?

I know that the JRB at least USED to use this freq regularly, but like you, I haven't heard them there in quite some time. I have heard that bridge as well as the Coleman Bridge on low band, though (47.34).

First I've heard of this... if they do it might be a simplex operation.

jeremiah,

I don't have the PL because I typically don't look down when I hear them to see what it is, but the Coleman Bridge is also on the 453.850 freq. I have heard them every so often. As I live about 9 miles from the bridge, they are a bit weak.

Just wanted to let you know i work right near the JRB and they do call in on 47.34 . They call into Monitor Merrimac Control most of the time. Maybe it works double duty as a command post for the both.

I suggest that you keep 453.4125, 453.85, and 45.76 all programmed in using PL 77.0. The first two are supposed to be in VDOT UHF portables, and 45.76 is available in both mobile and handheld radios.

Jamestown Ferry ops

453.4125 and 453.8 were verified active with the 77.0 tone, I ride the ferry 10 times a week and found them with a freq counter.....
the . 4125 is security f1 and 453.8 is f2....heard both used back and forth and heard the announce the switch between freqs.

Jerimah,

I typically don't get up near enough to the Coleman to hear them talking much. After looking at your site this morning, and reading this

from -"hampton-roads-scanner-page">

Welcome

Happy scanning! Please don't send in any changes or info. Click below to see why. Thanks.

End of "Hampton-roads-scanner-page" excerpt.

Though you asked above for the update, after reading your page, DO NOT COUNT ON SEEING ANY UPDATES FROM ME.

At least these exchanges have gotten you to at least admit you are no longer supporting the Hampton Roads Scanner page. It was a great site while it lasted.
