Both tones??????/

I copy a university security in Harrisonburg,va on 453.9. Far signals can happen due to heat inversion. I use to copy PSP in Carlisle,PA on 154.695 here in Strasburg,VA elev 708 ASL over 120 miles away at night and also Hyattesville MD when they were on 155.13 at night they are over 100 miles away. At present even during the day Park Police DC on 166.925 night and day still and they are about 100 miles from me at present. I am 80 years old and i can remember in the 70s hearing NYC with their tests at 6AM on 154.43 mornings and they are 227 miles away so maybe you are copying Harrisonburg I don't know their tone. My record was on low band 29.6 to my Uniden pocket scanner hearing the Netherlands they moved to 29.27 for the QSO i think it was back on the 70s

While 450 and 144 propagation differs a bit, the map at VHF Propagation Map will give one an idea from where signals are coming from. Maybe the map, updated hourly, will offer a hint on where to investigate. Warm days and cool nights equal temperature inversions. Results have been amazing these past few months.

In early June I was sraying in a second floor room at Congress Hall on the beach in Caoe May talking to some friends on 440 reoeaters in the Philadelphia area... using a VX6-R HT. The tropo lasted hours each evening.
