I'm anticipating sending my low serial number SDS100 to Uniden for repair of the rotary encoder and for repair of an intermittent power connection at the micro USB port.

The radio has never exhibited any of the symptoms of the cold solder joint, but I am asking for comment on:
1. will Uniden do such a preemptive "repair" and,
2 . should I also request Uniden to do a preemptive "repair?"

Or, is this a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" issue?

Would opening up the radio to repair my two issues lead to aggravation of the CSJ issue, possibly by stressing the circuit boards?

IMHO, there is no recall so they won’t do a preemptive repair.

Read the info given here. Assuming the 1 year warranty has elapsed on the scanner then the $94.95 flat repair fee with CONUS shipping will apply
