Good Evening/Morning;

If this post should have been in the GMRS/FRS forum,
I realize it will be moved and I apologize for posting in the wrong forum

I just returned from visiting family in Rochester

I monitored a CW ID on 462.625 MHz several times while I was there
I don't know CW so I can't tell you what the ID is
I only heard the ID, I didn't hear any traffic on the repeater
I was listening from 2PM to Midnight while I was there

Does anyone know who the repeater belongs to?
Is it open or private?

There are no repeaters on mygmrs.com listed for the Rochester area

I don't believe that it was an image or harmonic of another frequency
But I could be mistaken
It sounded very clear to me, not fuzzy or distorted

My location was off Thurston Road just north of Brooks Avenue

I was using a Realistic PRO-84 with a Diamond RH-519 antenna

Thank you for any info and satisfying my curiousity

You probably heard WPXG779 which is on that frequency and does have CWID.

It is a private repeater owned by Gary Perkins for his personal family use.

I believe it is located in the Greece or Gates area so it would be strong in the Brooks/Thurston area.

I am not aware of any "open" GMRS repeaters in Monroe County.

to Petey: Thank You, right now I don't have or use a smartphone [yet], but I'll keep that in mind

to k2hz: Thank You, I guess I won't bother taking my ICOM h-t with me next time I go home to visit unless things change between now and July

Good Evening/Morning;

Update to my post from February:

I still monitored a CWID on 462.625 MHz but no voice traffic

I did monitor businesses on 462.575 MHz and 462.700 MHz Friday morning between 8:30 am and 11:00 am

I don't know if they are grandfathered in and just not bothering to ID at all or if they're illegal

I was monitoring from inside the airport terminal

I'm still using the Realistic PRO-84 and a Diamond RH-519 antenna

From what I didn't hear in the last 3 weeks, I'm still not going to bother bringing my ICOM when I visit

Take Care Everyone

There still are no public GMRS repeaters in the Rochester area that I am aware of.

The owner of 462.625 WPXG779 now primarily lives in Florida so it is used only when he is back in the area.

462.5750and 462.700 are blatantly illegal.

462.575 is BOCES #1 school bus operations and they are not grandfathered since they never had a license to the best of my knowledge.

Any use of 462.700 is illegal in the area since the frequency can not be used north of Line A. So the LTR trunked repeater at Bristol used by Finger Lakes Ambulance is totally illegal. Never had a license and LTR trunking is not allowed on GMRS.

The only legal grandfathered repeater in the area is 462.675 PL123.0 KAA9096, UofR maintenance. I have not heard any activity for some time but their license is still valid.

Good Evening/Morning;

k2hz - OK on the BOCES #1, Creekside was mentioned in the comms that I heard

The comms on 462.700 were more like a construction, delivery or hauling company of some kind

There is an expired license for Barclay & Fowler Oil in Brockport in the FCC records
They were licensed for 462.700/467.700
Hmmmmmm, something to think about there

Anyway, I do have to admit that it was nice NOT hearing any bubblepacks on the GMRS freqs in my neighborhood while I was in town, I did have the FRS freqs locked out LOL

On another side note, too bad all the Rochester & Monroe County LE went digital, I would have brought my ICOM programmed for receive only for RPD, oh well

Thank You again, and Take Care

The primary user of the illegal Bristol 462.700 LTR TRS is Finger Lakes Ambulance that has been on there for years. Various small garbage, construction and towing contractors come and go on the system. It is trunked with 2 Business frequencies that are licensed as community repeaters but not for trunking.

462.650 and 462.700 require coordination with Canada so the FCC just plain banned their use in the area when GMRS licenses were changed in 1999 to authorize all rather than specific frequencies. There were some licensed users prior to 1999 that were coordinated for and grandfathered on the frequency.

There is a fair a amount of legitimate simplex GMRS/FRS use in the area but no interest I am aware of for any open shared repeater use. I think there is a 462.675 repeater in Livingston Co in the Dansville area that may be open but none in Monroe Co.
