Is this band still active in the NE Ohio (Cleveland) area? I haven't heard anything in a long time. Any active frequencies would be appreciated.

Don't know but I have heard it on 50.xx (I think 50.52 but can't recall for sure) during adverse weather alerts reporting into the net associated with the NWS Skywarn, Cleveland. I've heard it as far south as the Wheeling, WV area.

52.68 was historically used as the Northern Ohio skywarn background. When all the inputs are active and the amp is on it has unbelievable coverage. The next time there is severe weather in the Northern Ohio (more than just fast random storm) tune into 52.68.

Thanks for the specific frequency Mike. As I noted, I couldn't recall and punched through a couple of scanners but no 6m frequencies came up. It indeed is a real powerhouse when a Skywarn net is using it.

Regarding 52.68...

A couple of times when there wasn't severe weather, I've heard 2 guys chewing the fat on this frequency. I didn't listen long enough for an ID...is this a (open) repeater?

52.68 is part of the SMART group. The repeater is closed. It is used as the "Backbone" for NWS and several districts.

The M2M group used to have a repeater in the Medina area as well. I think it was 52.66. It was an open repeater.

I just took a look in the Ohio repeater guide and the M2M 6m repeater is on 51.66. In the past I have been able to bring it up pretty easily with a VX-5 though I am not sure if it is still up (currently do not have 6m equipment).

Take care!
