While listening today, I heard several hams on 60 meters, USB, but they were not on the frequencies as I understand the 5 channels to be. For instance, one was on the 3rd channel, 5358.5 MHz, but he was actually on 5357 MHz USB.

Looking at the ARRL US Amateur Radio Band Chart, the hashes are at 5330.5, 5346.5, 5357, 5371.5, and 5403.5. The blue areas have 2.8 KHz indicated above them to the right of those 5 channels and in the paragraph below the chart, indicates that the blue areas represent the USB part of the channels and should be centered in the 2.8 KHz at 5332, 5348, 5358.5, 5373, and 5403.5. Also CW and digital emissions, if I read it correctly, are 1.5 KHz above the hashed frequencies indicated like 5330.5 + 1.5 or is it 5332 + 1.5?

OK, am I reading the chart wrong or can you transmit USB in the frequencies starting at the hashes, for instance 5330.5 to 5332 (channel 1)?

Please un-confuse me.

For 60 meter sideband you transmit on the frequencies where the hash marks are and make sure you don't exceed a bandwidth of 2.8 Khz. To listen, you tune to the frequencies at the hashmarks.

When you talk on 5330.5 USB, your upper sideband signal is on frequencies above 5330.5, it's not on 5330.5. The amount your signal extends above 5330.5 depends on your bandwidth.

Figuring out the center of your sideband and subtracting down to find where you should tune your radio is confusing. It's much easier just to tune to a fixed frequency and talk knowing that your upper sideband will be on the correct frequency. It's spelled out a little better here: --> New 60 Meter Privileges Now In Effect
