796D and D996T Data Import

Can data from the 796D be imported to the 996T like data from the 780 could be imported into the 796D?

No. Totally different memory structure in the new scanners. Cut and paste is about the best you can do.

or dump it into a .csv file and let the import tools of the software handle it. I'd be willing to wager that ARC996 can do this....Scan Control can as well. In fact, if memory serves SC will convert the data on the fly, even though the memory structure is different.

ARC996 you can load the ARC780 mem file in the CSV mapper in ARC996 and then you can copy/paste the data you need into a group.
