Is there a way for any of the Uniden scanners (BCD 396, 996, 386XT) to display the id number of the radio while it is transmitting?

Press Function (the scroll knob) and then the 6 button while holding on a TG until you get the display you want. There is 3 options.

No, there is not. Search the topic and you'll find that this subject has been beaten to death.... time and time again

In replying; I am assuming that you are referring to specific Radio IDs as opposed to talkgroups.

Keep in mind, however, that installing a discriminator tap on the radio will not allow your radio display to show a specific radio ID; which is what I think you were hoping to accomplish.
