I have held off on asked about this on my 996 when I scan the Occone county SC Sheriff I can hear them but at random times I get nothing but data noise and it can last several minutes! I find myself looking through channel out a lot after paying for the DMR upgrade it's kinda of a loss! Now if I scan the same channels with a 436 I never hear this! I posted a video of it so you can hear it! Is there something wrong with the scanner? Am I missing a setting? Or is it encryption? I don't think I can upload video so here's a YouTube link. There's a New 536 under it but I didn't unlock the DMR yet.

I saw it was low but im not far from the tower and with a 436 it never happens I have even turned up the squelch to Max. The 436 has the whip antenna the 996 does this even with a External antenna on my roof. Maybe something is wrong with the 996?

Turn the squelch down, not up.

Down will open it up??? And it won't scan.

You might try using AUTO as listed in the Database instead of NFM.

Yes if squelch is down to far it won't scan(stopped on channel) or if too high it will not stop on weak signals.

I'm really not sure how impactful squelch is on digital signals. I suppose I should "know". :(

I agree it looks like a weak signal which will be a challenge for the radio. There might be some kind of external issue with antenna connection.

Good Luck,
Mike

Don't feel bad. I've got a 996P2 in my work vehicle and I still get the "DMR noise" on DMR channels even with a full signal. I've even entered the color code and still no joy. On other systems, have signal strength and it comes in loud and clear. I'm tempted to just buy a DMR professional radio and have our shop program it up!

I am really thinking it's the scanner Uniden may not have set it up right to decide DMR efficiently? The 536 and 436 have no issue with this I had my 996 and 536 locked on the offending channel for a day now and not once did I hear the data from the 536! It's always silent when the 996 is screaming the data noise! I guess it's a glitch in the 996 not properly squelching out the sound it might be encryption the Sheriff is using randomly? The scanner is supposed to mute this but for some reason the 996 fails on this system! Another thought (I don't know if they use the same channels for data such as sending photos or other non Voice data ) maybe it's what I'm hearing? It's usually brief (a second or 2 sometimes like in the video it last 45-60 seconds) and I do see a full signal when it happens.
