996T Serial Connection

are you able to use the rear serial connector on the 996T for computer control? the manual shows the front connector being used but I think that would look a little tacky on my desk.

Yes, but you need a null modem to do it. You can find those at just about any computer store.

The manual mentions to use the front port for computer control and the rear port for GPS. Doesn't mean you can't use it for computer control, I have used the front port for GPS also.

cool...thanks. do you like the GPS feature? if I get one I'll probably leave it at home though.

The GPS feature works great, but it's for mobile operation not, base. No reason to use it at home.
