We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. I have come to what some people will find a shocking conclusion regarding Christianity.

This conclusion doesn't involve a blood line rather the early influence on Christianity from at least one belief system that i know of that has helped create the version of Christianity that we know today.

The influence from another belief system regards heaven and hell as actual places for the righteous and unrighteous to dwell after the mortal coil is shed.

Heaven and hell as dwelling places after death are not actual concepts to be found in the bible as some people believe presently.

The concepts of heaven and hell are in fact early influences from Norse mythology which have become entwined within Christianity.

Here is a small amount of information to view.

There's nothing shocking here. Those of us with Christian faith don't need to worry about such myths since we believe that times and culture will change but God's word will stand forever.

Gordon, if you simply read this on the Internet and came to a "shocking conclusion", then its going to be hard to take you seriously on anything.

Thanks for the reply prcguy.

I would be willing to have someone quote the bible where it talks about an after life in heaven or hell.

The bible refers to the heavens as the sky and space but not a dwelling place after death and as for hell?

Thanks CrabbyMilton.

I still couldn't see any quotes where the bible mentions a place where you go after death called heaven and also no place called hell where you go after death to be punished.

The word heaven is used as a term meaning everything above earth as in the sky and space,it has also been used in a non materialistic sense and not of the earthly things such as power, possessions, rank etc.

The heavens are not of this earth in a biblic sense,a space of no materialism.

Hell isn't even mentioned nor as a dwelling place, the bible talks about "a dump on the outskirts of the city where criminals and poor people were cremated and burned without gravestone or honor. Sulfur, fire and brimstone were used to cremate their bodies".

I appreciate your interest. I'm no bible scholar so all I can do is point you toward scripture.
One of the biggest complaints if you want to call it that of the bible is that it may seem vague and contradicts itself. You have to remember that it's a combination of several different books written over centuries so you might say different terms may be lost in translation though the meaning is the same.
Some of the authors may use certain terms to describe something that they had a vision of in a way that is the best way they know how to most accurately describe it so that may cause some to be in conflict.
I know you don't believe but it's encouraging that you take an interest and appear to approach it in a mature and civilized way But you must have faith to really understand.
I can't convert you only God himself can provide faith and I'll pray that he can work with you.

Thanks CrabbyMilton.

I believe the scriptures have been mistranslated in certain areas and totally misunderstood in others.

A quick example would be one of the apostles named Thomas didymus, Thomas means twin and so does didymus so he is called twin twin in the bible which surely is a misunderstanding somewhere along the line.

I do actually believe in a creative force on earth and the Universe,it's something both science and religion can agree on,after that realisation it's the interpretation and understanding that differ.

I am interested in trying to find truth and the true nature of many of the mystery's on this planet and i have respect for all religious people and their faiths, not favouring one above another nor denigrating one more than another.

I will post about many other religions in the future regarding what i have read and also a few ideas regarding their origins.
