Couldn't sleep so I started messing around with sdr. I noticed that AA County fire was dispatching on the normal 154.010 but responding units were showing up on 154.175 and 154.770 as tac channels. I was only listening for about a half hour. Im sure other vhf frequencies were also in use that I didn't catch.

What is the purpose of patching Tac TGs to VHF?

I am wondering the same thing. Years ago, they used to patch to VHF for the MSP Troopers but now they have the talkgroups and all surrounding counties have the capability to talk on the 800mhz so I am not sure why they would patch to VHF anymore.

Probably just leaving it there until it dies. Costs money to turn stuff off and remove it.

Also, that justifies the continued use of an FCC license.

When I made the original post I was aware that they had these channels assigned to them. I couldn't figure out why they were being used at the time. I would dust off the 210xl and program the vhf channels for fire use if they were used on a regular basis. I have no idea when vhf is going to pop up.
