Was curious if anyone with a 325 provides a live scanner feed with tags, and if so how do you do it.

The scanner sends/receives data and is powered by the same USB port, so unless it is currently powered by batteries, it won't work. It seems like USB ports just ain't powerful enough to turn the scanner on.

What im really asking is, is there a way to use the port on the scanner for both data and power (without batteries) at the same time.

Assuming your USB port is providing adequate power, you can use it to power the scanner indefinitely. My BCD325P2 runs for days while plugged into my MacBook or an old USB wall charger without depleting the batteries. It will only charge the batteries, though, if I turn off the scanner power.

That is what I mean. I want to use my scanner with no batteries, plugged into a USB port, so I can also send/receive data from the scanner at the same time. However, when my scanner is plugged into a USB port with no batteries it does not power on. It needs batteries in order to power on, but then it runs off battery power. The only way it will turn on without batteries is by plugging it into a wall charger.

Does that make sense?

Your computer may not be providing enough power through the USB ports. Do you have any other USB devices plugged in? Depending on your computer, all USB devices may share current that your computer provides.

You might consider a powered USB hub to provide more current if the ports on your computer are not providing enough. If it powers on from a USB wall adapter, but not from your computer, that's the problem.

I've been using a 325 for a year to feed Proscan for analysis. I leave the batteries in but it's using the poswer from the PC as well as transferring data.

Never bothered to take the batteries out but I'm sure it would work. It;s an OLD PC and does not have a high power USB port. Never checked - I have one of those USB power meters.

I run it 24/7 - should be no different than providing a stream.

Maybe get one of the meters and check your port, it sounds like it's low power.

Just a quick update. Realised I was using a USB hub that is not powered, plugging the scanner into my PC USB port allowed me to power it on without batteries. Should have realized that from the start...

Thanks again for the help!
