You need to monitor the Ops 1 talkgroup on a site with a radio affiliated on that channel. Usually if you are close to any of the bases or larger cities.

I'm in baton rouge and had scanner master program my uniden 396 but for some reason I don't have that channel, I used to listen to it from the feed from pointe coupee but it's been off line for about a month now.

Can anyone send me how to program it into my scanner or exactly what channel it's on?m any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Which 396 do you have? The 396XT? Be sure that you have each of the sites, within range of you, entered. You'll get better reception on the LWIN system if you use the Radio Shack 800MHz antenna, instead of the stock antenna that came with the scanner. This would require use of the SMA to BNC adapter that came with the radio. The sites are listed at the top of the database page for the system.

The Ops 1 talkgroup (Acadian EMS - Operations 1 - Air Med Ops) is 6853. It, and the other Acadian related talkgroups, are listed under the header "Other Agencies Talkgroups". Even with the talkgroup programmed in, you may not hear activity several parishes away, only that in your area, being carried on the sites you have programmed & can receive. The radio in the air unit has to 'affiliate' (connect) with a tower in your area, or else you will not hear them. Similarly, even if you programmed in all the State Police talkgroups, you would not normally hear traffic from all over the state, only that in your area. That's the way the system is designed.

For more information on adding a talkgroup, or a site (transmit tower), see the Easier to Read manual online.

The easiest way to verify exactly what is currently programmed in the scanner is via software. You should have the pc control cable, which was included with the scanner. If your pc does not have a serial port, then you'd either need the Uniden USB-1 cable, available from ScannerMaster & elsewhere, or a USB to serial adapter. See this Wiki article.

Once you have the scanner connected to the pc, then download & install FreeSCAN. (See the download link on that page.)

Once the software is installed & running, and the scanner is connected to the pc, then read the contents of the scanner into the software.
**Save that configuration. This is the programming you paid for.**

Now, using the software, you can look at systems, especially LWIN, and verify which sites are loaded, along with the talkgroups. You can easily add whatever you need to as well, via the software, then load the updated information back to the scanner. The FreeSCAN user guide is in the Wiki. Save your updated file under a new name as a backup.
