New Mystery EMS service Talk Group in SA ...

I have been monitoring an un-documented Talk Group on the Pro-Voice Gold TRS.
Their subject matter is EMS related, patients to hospitals, etc. don't know but I sure
thought the other day I heard them say the name Acadian ... can't say for sure.

I have heard that AMR ( American Medical Response ) will be loosing the contract
to provide outer lying EMS Ambulance services ... easy to hear them on 451.3000 ( LTR*)

btw ~ It seems that the SAPD system administrator just flipped back to being digital
the TG 02-027 = SAPD Central Patrol ... it has been very active in Analog for about 2 weeks
and as of tonight ... sadly it seems BACK to being a digital talk group ... darn it !
Just curious as to why they changed it to Analog for 2 weeks ... or was it an acident ? Hmm ?

That system Admin was reading posts on RR, say yours and flipped the TG back to ESK! (j/k) I hope this Ambulance service isn't as bad as Life-Tech was in Collin Co. a number of years ago. If they failed in another state, that's not a good sign. Bexar Co. has a slight Traffic problem, and if these guys were slow responding in a rural area, there gonna have an even tougher time in SAT. Good luck down there Guys!

Well there was a post about this in the Texas forum here, but it definitely got more attention in this forum...

IMHO, AMR was a great service. I never had to "use" them but did hire no less than 5 of their medics for a year or two, and they were a professional group. I've never heard anything about Acadian, and didn't really think any service was large enough in San Antonio to handle this contract (except AMR, which is huge).

I really hope some number-cruncher didn't decide to accept the lowest bid contract without doing a little homework...

AMR had some of the worst response times here in the Metro Atlanta area and got booted, fast! Rural/Metro and MetroAtlanta came in and took over and the response times greatly improved. I'm guessing that Arcadian EMT/Paramedic are nationally registered vs state registered? Seems more states are moving to that instead of having to do all the administering the test. I was State certified back in the 80's, and when we would take a patient across state lines that did not have resoprosity, legally we couldn't maintain aid and care to the patient. Win/Win all the way around!

National Registration does not supersede state requirements. Texas licenses paramedics and will accept NREMT for initial registration from out of state paramedics. If you are transferring someone from say, Louisiana to Texas, but don't do it on a regular basis, you are OK. If you regularly do interstate transfers, you need to have both a Texas license and a Louisiana certification. A friend of mine works for Acadian and is based in Louisiana, but does a lot of transfers to Houston. Acadian requires him to be licensed in Texas and certified in Louisiana.

Licensing or certification varies widely from state to state, and even those that do accept NREMT will require in state certification.

My last knowledge was that Georgia did away with state certification (as well as many other states) in lieu of the NREMT. Saves them money in the long run. I think it would be the most sensible thing, IF, all the states could agree on the standards (some states will allow EMT's to start IV's, others won't).
