So I had wired the charging cable for my HP-1 directly to my car battery, and now I have a HP-2 with the different charging cable. I’m wondering if someone can tell me what kind of connector this is, so I can find the female version with a USB female on the other end, therefore being able to charge the HP-2 in the car. Thank you!

Isn’t charging accomplished thru the mini USB?
That's correct.

Unlike the HP-1, the HP-2 uses a mini-USB cable for charging as well as connecting to your PC for updating Favorites lists & the main database.

While the HP-1 could use 12V, like from a lighter adapter, the HP-2 needs 5 volts, the same voltage that most cellphones & tablets use. You would need an adapter that plugs into your lighter socket, that drops the voltage down to 5 volts. If you already have one for your cellphone, that can power an additional cable, you could just use that. There are a number of adapters on Amazon & elsewhere that will provide the correct voltage & current for the HP-2, either with an attached cable that fits the HP-2, or a USB port to plug a separate cable in.

I use one of these:

It comes with a cable that will connect to your HP-2, and also provide power to two additional USB power cables. I use this for my SDS100, and it provides enough power to both run & charge the scanner. Then plug in another, separate, cable to run another scanner, such as one of my 436HPs.

Thank you hiegtx. Does this mean there’s probably no adapter that can be used to connect my current cable to the HP2 mini usb? Since it’s different voltages?

You understand that that device you linked will put 9v (which used to power your HP1) into the HP2, which is designed to charge at USB voltages (5v).

Unless you drop the voltage of your power supply , you will damage your unit. @hiegtx mentioned this as well... You will also have more points of failure (that being the adaptor which doesn't really need to be there) than you would if you just used a USB car charger. USB is a standard for a reason, it prevents hackjobs like this from being necessary.

I would just use a USB charger wire off a power port/cig adapter/ or direct wire.

Look at the one I posted above. That includes the correct cable for the HP-2, as well as providing the correct voltage (5 volts). It also has two additional USB ports, so that you could charge other devices (with the correct cable for your cellphone or a tablet).

The one you linked does not provide power; it only lets you connect a separate power supply to the scanner. As a417 noted, if you send 9 volts to the HP-2, you'll damage it & necessitate a trip to Uniden for repair.

Or, use an adapter like this:

There's a ton of mini-USB cables on Amazon, at various lengths, as well as some with right-angle plugs to go into the scanner.
