Hi all,

I'm totally new in this field and I want to start making some capture of ADS-B traffic.
In particular, I'm interested in capturing the raw ADS-B IQ signal to perform some experiments with it.

I was looking for some device able to do it and in particular, I saw that most of the papers use the FlightAware kit.
Unfortunately, FlightAware does not send items outside the US. Currently, I'm in Italy and I cannot find any European seller anywhere.

I would like to ask you for some suggestions about that, do you know some other good item that allows me to do the same? Maybe also well supported from the software point of view (in the end I mostly need to collect the IQ signal).
From my research I saw Adalm pluto or NESDR, what do you think? Any other suggestions?

Would be even better to have the entire kit ready to go. My budget is around 150$.

Thanks a lot for the help!

A standard $10 SDR USB dongle has IQ output. You can set the frequency from a computer or RaspberryPi and extract the IQ signal.
To improve performance you can add 1090 filter and special antenna and preamplifier and still be below $100.

You might try Flightradar24.. Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map | Flightradar24

(They're based in Sweden). About six years ago I applied to be a feed provider here in Canada. They sent me a commercial receiver and antenna.
In our university department, we applied to OpenSky and they give us a feeder, it's a radarcape. However, other than not being well documented, it doesn't allow us to obtain the raw signal...only the processed and demodulated one.

For this reason, I am looking for a good solution to dump the IQ output.

Radarcape's Wiki says:

" the Radarcape provides raw data in different qualities and quantitites:
TCP port 10002
raw data as it is received by the FPGA board, includes all errors, broken frames and more."

Can't you use that port?

If not, then the Radarcape include an amplified antenna, you can borrow that.
Buy any SDR dongle that uses a R820 receiver. There's lots of supportive software for that type of dongle.
