• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Let me preface this, I HAVE MY ISSUED SOFTWARE SYSTEM KEY!!

Again, I have a system key!!!! I am not asking/implying/hinting/inuendoing (is that a word) that I need to bypass the system key requirement for my radio.

I have an XTS2500 that is on our local system. Our local system is the ONLY one in the radio. No outside systems or anything like that are programmed into this unit.

I wanted to change the scan setup in my radio. I read it with the CPS, changed a button function (moved scan), and attempted to write back to the radio.

No go????

It says, "cannot write radio without advanced keys".

No problem I think. I just read my software key. The CPS takes it and allows me to enter into the trunking system and change whatever I want (ID, TGs, etc). So I know the CPS is taking it.

I try to write back to the radio again, BOOM. Same message as above.

So I simply read the radio, make no changes, and attempt to write back. Nope. I keep getting this same error.

The radio is not write protected. I made updates to the programming about a year ago and it worked fine.

What am I doing wrong here? I must be missing something.

Thanks,

WM

I have played around with my XTS5000s, and they seem to work fine.

There must be a write protect or something going on with the 2500. I programmed it last year, so I don't know what could have happened.

Stupid radio LOL.

Very simple, your software system key will not work once your radio was written to with an ASK. You will need an ASK for the system in question to write to the radio.

You should contact the system manager for the appropriate ASK for the system.

And that may be what I have to do.

What is odd (to me at least) is that my other XTS series mobiles and portables seem to communicate fine, after having been programmed with a mixture of both ASKs and Software keys.

This little 2500 is the only one in the group (group size of 8 radios) that is acting up.

I will get a hold of the system admin tomorrow and see if he can beat on it with his ASK.

Thanks,

WM

Just remove the ASK lock from your radio and it will work with the software key again.
if you don't know how to do it its at Communications.Support Forums
You can remove the lock an ASK does and use what ever you want.

You are treading thin ice with your employer by doing what you are trying to do. The reason they used ASK is to stop what you are trying to do. The system admin obviously does not want people messing with what they programmed, hence the ASK.

You can try and justify this all you want, but you need to go back to the radio shop/sys admin and have THEM reprogram your radio or issue you an ASK to allow you to program the radio.

Yes, the ASK removal will work, but be forewarned that if your employer finds out that you bypassed their security, be prepared to receive your walking papers.
