I have what is likely a stupid question, but I'll ask nonetheless. With regard to monitoring the alarm room dispatches on the above conventional frequency, is there a way to decode or convert the squelch noises heard when they're calling units out into tones? Just curious....any info would be helpful. :)

I was thinking your question was...can the squelch/tones be blocked, and since the alarm room is not PL'ed, the answer is probably not. But, maybe I misunderstood the question...

Nope, the extra noises you hear is data being sent to the fire stations. If you have a trunking EDACS scanner, you can hear dispatch on it. =)

That's what i wanted to know. I wasn't sure if the squelch noises were actual tones being sent ou that weren't being decoded by my scanner or what. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's figured this out, but you can roughly tell the type of call that's about to go out based on the length of the squelch noises.....anyways...thanks for the info!
