Anyone have the inside track on what AFR is up to the last few days with the robo dispatching and different tones? Are they using paging or something? I find it too annoying to listen to, only advantage is that they read the Clawson codes out.
It's the wave of the future! Motorola fire paging. Has been around for a long time. It cuts you off when you are speaking to page out the call. Its slow, but clear, and only cost 1 million dollars. The tones you are hear are to alert the field units. They are not bad. I think the robo voice is the most annoying. I don't think it will last long. County did the same thing a while back and ditched it. I give it until the end of the week and the can it.

Its Happening all over the Country, Automated Dispatch is much more than just the radio though and there are several vendors, Locution being the big player (my Department uses US Digital), it's all about response times and removing errors, the auto dispatch goes out as the call taker is taking the call, and there are some stress-relieving alerting systems as well, and if a station has each unit in a separate area only the area where the dispatched unit is in (Dorms) gets alerted with a ramping tone to reduce heart issues, and gentler lighting.
