On my HomePatrol 2, when I power it down and then upon repower, it doesn't remember my settings (what system, department, and channel I may have had it set on when I turned it off).

I looked in the HP2 menu and forums, but I cannot find a setting to save the settings so that when power it back on it remembers the settings.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

When you turn it off, does it write to the SD card?
I have it powered to a car ingintion dependent power source via the car's USB jack, so when I turn my car off, it shuts off after I turn off the ignition and a few seconds after after I open my car door. But even if I shut it down via the power button, the same thing happens when I turn it back on, but I get the option as shown on the attached picture when I shut it off.

the settings are supposed to be saved when you use the switch to turn it off, not just shutting off the power.
That is what I thought, but that is not what is happening. When I power the scanner back on, it opens the system, department, and channel without remembering where it was set when I turned it off.

i would say, anything that can cause a problem can be a problem.
yes, sandisks are great, but if the radio was writing to the disc and power was cut, that causes a problem.
i am not 100% on the HP's but i know they don't like having the power cut.
just like a computer doing updates and writing to the disc.
the reason it keeps doing it is the problem is saved to the disc.
new batteries will not hurt.

from the manual
Power Disconnection Caution Important: Always turn the scanner off before disconnecting external power. Some settings are saved only as the scanner is powering down.

If you have recording enabled, the SD card can be corrupted if the scanner is writing to the card when you remove power. You should always turn the scanner off first and then remove power once the writing to the card is completed. The scanner saves the current settings to the card when you turn it off. If you just kill power, the settings will not be saved.

Never a good move to abruptly kill power to a scanner which writes to an SD card. As mentioned previously, turn the scanner off "gracefully" via the power button so it still has power applied to be able to write changes to the SD card. Numerous threads here on the tech forums discussing this...

If you are turning the radio on and off with the power button and this behavior shows up then perhaps the internal memory capacitor is not charging properly. Leave the radio powered for 24 hours and see if that solves it, otherwise it might be time to send it in for repair.

If you are using the car ignition to control power then read on:

The HP scanner (as does the 436/536 and SDS series) will revert to the settings on the SD Card when powered on. When you remove the power to the radio BEFORE shutting off the radio properly the final settings are not saved, so the next time the radio is turned on the radio reverts to whatever was on the SD Card before.

Before killing the power turn the radio off and when it is turned on again it should retain the last settings, including what items are scanning and any permanent lockouts you had set.

What I usually do is to turn the scanners in my car off after I set them the way I want them, wait a minute and then turn them on again. I then can use the ignition to turn them on and off. I also keep a couple spare SD Cards in case one gets corrupted. If I make changes later on (setting some permanent lockouts, make some field programming changes, set different things to scan etc.) I again power the radio down with the power switch to force-write them to the SD Card.
