To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Has anyone found a way to program the HD-1 to RX above 480mhz?

I have 6 486mhz channels to program in, they are the only 6 that seem to be impossible to program into the radio.

...from the Ailunce facebook page; I should note that other users report the radio as being "deaf" at frequencies beyond 477 or so.

New HD1 software V1.89 and Firmware V1.47
Changelog:
Software:
1. Add Mic Gain
2. Spread Frequency up to 520MHz
Firmware:
1. Support adjust Mic Gain on Software
2. Improved the random frozen up.
3. Receive signal is black, more visible

Note:Mic Gain, it only workable with firmware V1.47 or above.
Spread Frequency, put the mouse on the bottom of the software, press “Ctrl” and click the left mouse button. There will be a pop-up box, write the password 11882. Click OK. Then you can edit the frequency. The frequency support up to 520Mhz.
We need to stress that 480-520MHz is not radio original frequency and the antenna is not adjusted for this frequency. We just offer a function allow you use the frequency in particular cases. Please obey the local law.

Their site seems to be down at the moment, I'll try it again later.

I appreciate it.

Ailunce has a Facebook page for the HD-1. I know others have increased the frequency range of these radios... Perhaps you can get some support there.

Do a search for: Ailunce HD1 / Retevis News and Support

Thanks, I'll head over there.

FYI... As an experiment, I expanded the range (per the instructions above) to 482 MHz and added an analog channel for 481.950. After saving the codeplug and writing to the radio, it appears to have worked.

Remember that the new frequency will only appear in the ALL CHANNELS zone unless you add it to another zone, although it can also be entered in the VFO.

Thanks Chief21

I got it to work. I completely removed the previous software version from the laptop and installed the new version, then wiped the radio, updated Firmware and then reloaded the codeplug . New zones were created for the channels, they took.

When the both of you say "worked" and "took", does that mean that you are now able to transmit and/or receive on those frequencies above 480MHz or that you were able to enter them into the radio?

I would like to be able to receive from 500 - 512MHz. I currently use a Radioddity GD-77, using Roger Clark's modified CPS to achieve that, which is a step up from the Baofeng RD-5R. Having the Ailunce HD1 with that capability would be an even better solution.

Thanks.

To your question, I have no way to check if it actually receives and transmits or not. There is nothing local to monitor in that frequency range. However, other users who have adjusted the frequency range of the HD1 have reported that it appears "deaf" above 477 Mhz or so.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

It looks like the original text was corrupted. Here is a manually-corrected copy...

To extend the frequency range on the HD1, put the mouse anywhere on the very bottom (status bar) of the CPS software, press the CTRL key and click the left mouse button. There will be a pop-up box, write the password 11882. Click OK. Then you can edit the frequency. The frequency support up to 520Mhz.

The HD1 CPS has always been a little squirrel-ly with any modifications to the main channel list. I would suggest that you try the frequency expansion with a minimal codeplug... just to see if it works. (I hope you saved a copy of your original.)
