There are as many scanner-nerds at airshows as there are big-lense photo-nerds, which means quite a few.

You will be fine, just dont go all whacker'd out with tactical response band-aid kits. Just bring plenty of water as it isnt cheap there.

dont forget batteries!

With the rules on "prohibited items" I read on the posted site, that means BIG POCKETS. :D

1. Unauthorized Items: Items you can NOT bring to the Air Show include:

• Coolers
• Backpacks
• Carryall bags
• Large handbags
• Animals/pets
• Bicycles/skateboards
• Kites/balloons
• Contraband
• Weapons, knives, guns
• Camelbaks
• Scooters, "Heelys" and rollerblades

Does anyone know what "contraband" might mean??? I just LOVE that catch all to preclude anything they don't want/like or think is 'inappropriate' (maybe like a scanner). I'd still take it with you as I've seen them at other DOD sponsored air shows since 9/11.

That's why I wear a vest with umpteen pockets. Though a water bottle does push things to their limit.

Howdy!
All the shows I have been to,and I've been to a few, I have never had a problem getting in with a scanner or any kind of monitoring gear. I used to bring my trusty Icom IC-A21 aircraft band two way radio. I am looking foward to my next show which is in Jones Beach NY. I will be taking my AOR-8200 for a spin. Contraband is simply anything that by legal statute or law, is illegal. IE....pot,crack,dope,ect...I'm sure your scanner, monitoring radio will be fine. Keep in mind that you are entering a Naval Air Station which is government property. They cant just let anything and everything in. Remember to post the freqs. you see active on here. It may help others at another show!

Probably not a good idea to happily demonstrate to base security that you're listening to THEM, if you are.

Just take it, be low key about it, and if they ask you to take it back to the car, just take it back.

Blues In Ms.

I did attend Wings Over Meridan but when I had to park all the way on the end of RW 1L I knew if I had to wold all the way back and bring the scanner back I would be in a bad mood so did not take it in. We Had a brief rain about 14:15 but it cleared out and the blues took the sky about 15:00 the only let down Fat Albert did not do a JATO which I was looking foward too seeing again.

I've taken a scanner onto the Willow Grove NAS and also onto the Maguire Air Force base without any issues. I did see one guy with a kids red wagon filled with como gear and a large antenna. That was in the pre 9-11 days. But more recently carrying one onto the base was not an issue.

Contraband,
denotes any item which, relating to its nature, is illegal to be possessed, usually drugs etc, but they could broaden it. But, safe bet, don't take your reefer with you or leave in the car, as the "dogs" might get a hit on it and you'll have some explaining to do, plus facing possible federal charges being on federal property.

From the news reports, I can see why there was heightened security this year, since Senator McCain was a guest.

The key words here being "THEY FEEL". I just don't like that catch all term. Allows them to make up rules as they go.
