I programmed this list into my Pro-96
http://www.fordyce.org/scanning/frequencies/alarm.html

Barely a Peep, IBI Security Frequently seems to be sending something but I get no audio, Peace security I get a little static. At one point last night some guy started rambling in what sounded like spanish, but I speak a decent amount of spanish and couldn't make out a word.

Does anyone else listen to these or know anything about what one could expect to hear when you do hear them?

I would expect at least to hear some stuff from Arrow Security or some of those radio dispatched security patrols, but I get nothing. Any ideas?

I can not speak for all Alarm Companies, but The ones I have worked for use cell -phones or PTT talk feature on the phone (Either Sprint-Nextel or Verizon). The cost of keeping a repeater as well as phones can be too much for some of the smaller guys.

We use cellphones at the shop and field.

Did you work for an installer or a central monitoring station? I worked for an installer too and yeah we used Nextel Direct Connect or regular phone/cell phones too.

I'm interested in listening to Alarm Monitoring stations, but I wonder how much traffic they would even use, since most alarms dial over land line, send signal, then humans at the station make phone calls in accordance with protocol.

Unfortunately Fordyce.org hasn't been updated in years, so a lot of the information is probably obsolete.

Unfortunately Scannerman5555 & Redhelmit13 are correct, since the alarm & security company purges in the 90's a lot has changed communications wise. However there are still a ton of companies still using their original VHF & UHF communications systems for whatever reason. There are hundreds of alarm monitoring & security companies still operating, way too many to post here, however I put together a small list of companies that I could find that may interest you. happy scanning.

If you look at the FCC license, when there are 1000+ units listed on the license, the frequency is probably used to send alarm signals from the protected premise, (home or business) back to the Central Station Monitoring Company. This is in case the telephone service (primary means of sending the signal) is disrupted or out of service.

I know one of the Company's listed above (they are a member of the local Security System's Association that I belong to) is licensed for this brand of backup radio AES-IntelliNet - Technology Overview. This is a neat network in that every backup radio is also a repeater, so that an alarm signal can go through multiple radios (or routes) to reach the Central Station.

Ditto what Alarms50 has said. Most of those licenses are no longer used for Voice traffic, in particular the 460 mhz allocations that used to be allocated for alarm companies ie 460.9500. Many companies are using those licenses for telemetry with AES Intellinet subscriber radios. Most other backup radios are cellular type systems, using cellular GSM networks.
