Greeting's. I'm having a problem with a Uniden BC248-CLT base scanner I have. I bought it refurbished from Uniden about a year and a helf ago and for some reason on only one certain frequency when no one is transmitting I hear almost constant static. I tried turning up the squelch all the way and I still hear the static. The frequency in question is 460.1000 which is the main police channel for Springfield, MA where I live. HELP! Thanx! :)

If you purchase a scanner with CTCSS, you can then program the PL of 156.7, and that will eliminate the problem.

Is it near a source of noise such as a PC or fluorescent lights? Did you try moving the scanner around in a different locaton? Is this on the supplied antenna or external antenna?

Thanx for the info GreatLakes but I'm not interested in getting another scanner at this time. :)

Greeting's DevalN. My laptop and it's wireless modem is about 3 feet away from the scanner, there are no fluoresent lights in the room where the scanner and it only has the supplied antenna. :)

Thanx to all for the info! I contacted Uniden's Tech support and they told me to send it in to them and they'd fix the problem. It turn's out that this particuliar problem is commen in the BC248-CLT and it's an easy fix. :)

Thanx to all for the info! It turns out that I didn't have to send it to Uniden cuz it was something in the room where I had the scanner in. I moved it to another room and it works fine now. :)
