Picked up, on the way up from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to MS State Univeristy, two freqs in the VHF Mil Band. They came through on AM receive mode.
142.5750 MHz (AM)- Mil Air traffic in vicinity of Meridian, MS (I was south of Meridian); callsign either "Python" or "Papa", not sure. Python came to mind first. There was a One and a Two for the call signs.
I think they were doing ground target practice of some kind.
141.0500 MHz (AM)- Mil air traffic in vicinity of Columbus, MS (I was in Starkville); monitored for short period, no call signs noted.
I never knew of military using their VHF band for air ops. I of course know of the UHF mil band used mostly for air, but for some reason always assumed the VHF mil band was more for ground units & base ops. Oh well, maybe someone can shed some light on this.
Thanks everyone.
